Rockin' the Block Canceled; But its Mission Continues
Rockin’ the Block, an annual outreach held by Faith Assembly of God since 2006, has been a longstanding tradition of the Pine Street Playground each summer. Many know Rockin’ the Block for the blessing that it has been to the community; giving away groceries, haircuts, family photos, and backpacks to children going back to school. Others remember the 3-on-3 basketball tournaments held at the Beech Street Playground. And some even remember the early years where Rockin’ the Block traveled to multiple playgrounds in the Hazleton area by day and finished with a rally at the Pine Street Playground at night. Rockin’ the Block has had many formats over the years, but the mission has always been the same - to shake Hazleton for Jesus! This year, Faith Assembly has announced that Rockin’ the Block has been canceled. However, the mission of sharing Jesus and blessing the community continues. Pastor Sal Reyes of Faith Assembly says in his heartfelt words to the people of Hazleton, “Thank you for ten years of letting us serve you! This year, we aren’t holding Rockin’ the Block. But we love you and want to continue to be there for you. This year, if you are in need of a backpack for your school aged children, we want to help! Please call us and schedule a time to come; we want to meet you, and pray with you, and help meet your needs.” It is a first come, first serve opportunity and an appointment is mandatory. Also, children that are in need of the backpacks must be present at appointment to receive them. Grades kindergarten through 6th are eligible for this assistance, while supplies are available. Please call Faith Assembly to schedule an appointment; 570-459-2410. Backpack and school supplies are provided through the donations of Faith Assembly’s congregation and this year The Hazleton Rotary. If you’d like to help fund this effort or donate supplies, please contact Pastor Sal Reyes.
